MGM Mirage Hospitality, Wyndham Group and Langham Hotel plans new hotels in India

With construction price coming down, global hotel majors are drawing plans to enter India. MGM Mirage Hospital which runs super luxury brand hotel – Bellagio is building properties in Mumbai and Delhi. It will become operational in 3 years. Hongkong based Langham Hotels is also constructing a hotel in Koregaon park in Pune. Simlarly, Ramada Inn which is operated by Wyndham group has ambitious plans to build 50 hotels with a mix of its Days Inn and some other 8 brands.

Intercontinental Hotels Group to add 31 new hotels in India

Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) is planning to put 31 new hotels in India with a mix of its 3 brands – Crown Plaza Hotels, Intercontinental Hotels & Resorts and Holiday Inn and Resorts. Currently, IHG runs 11 hotels in India. Its new hotels will come up in tier-I and tier-II cities like New Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, Kochi and Kolkatta. With this expansion, its will add 7600 rooms in India.

Berggruen Hotels to commission 5 hotels by 2009

Berggruen Hotels, a subsidiary of Berggruen Holdings of USA will commission 5 hotel property this 2009. The company which operates hotels and resorts in brand name ‘Keys’ are being set up in Khandala, Ludhiana, Thiruvananthapuram, Bangalore and Mahabaleshwar. These are budget hotels in economy class. The company is also actively pursuing to have hotels in 25 cites across India.

Roots Corporation plans more ‘Ginger’ brand of hotels

Roots Corporation Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Indian Hotels Co Ltd, is planning to expand its network of ‘Ginger’ brand of hotels. Ginger is a branded hotel category without any frills. It has 17 hotels now and plans to increase it to 30 by 2010. It is operating on a land-lease model than outright purchase. It also adopts public-private partnership in govt. lands (eg. Its Delhi hotel in Railway premises). Its other hotels in pipeline are Chennai, Surat, Jamshedpur, a second hotel in Pune and plans one in Dharwad
