Global Hotels bullish on India

 
 
Despite, the economic slowdown, global majors see positives in the hotel business in India. Reasons could be the crash in landprices and the demand for hotels in major cities. Many leading players have announced new projects in the sector. Hyatt, has announced its intention to acquire 20 properties in tier I & tier II cities in India. Similarly, Marriott International is proceeding with its plans to build 7 hotels in Indian cities. Hilton group has also announced its premium brand hotel ‘Doubletree’ in Gurgaon.

Real Estate cos face heat with slow-down in hospitality sector

 
 
In boom, many real estate cos like DLF, Unitech, Pasvanth Developers have entered hotel sector by setting up new hotels. It looked lucrative when the industry was in boom, but now with a longer attractive period, these cos are looking for an exit option with many properties.     Many of them also face liquidity crunch with slow-down. So in the current scenario, existing players have an edge.

India hotels to lose MICE market

 
 
With recession setting, many conference managers, prefer to cut cost and they find Indian hotels a bit steep, when compared to other destinations like Kulalampur, Dubai or Srilanka. One find hotels are cheaper by 40-50% when compared to India. What is more worrying for the Indian hotels, are that even Indian companies are looking out to cut costs and prefer to have these events abroad.

Hotel shortage likely for Commonwealth games

 
 

With many players calling off hotel projects will result in severe shortage for Commonwealth games. As of now,  there will be atleast 1500 rooms short from new hotels. Developers cite reasons such as delay in getting clearance, lack of competitive finance, viability etc., Among the 28 projects announced, 6 have called off, while the remaining 22 are in a state of indecision.
